For the very first time, a route or English-speakers is offered: Compose you own song with singer-songwriter Shane Ó Fearghail in Ireland, discover the world of LEGO Serious Play with Jesper Jensen in Denmark and laugh it up with comedian Jack Holmes in Great Britain, who will present a new program full of pitch black humor and Brexit jokes.

Aspiring linguist are in for a treat on this route: Italy kicks it off non-verbally, teaching you all about talking in Italian hand gestures. Germany explores the outer limits of languaes with four slam poets. And finally, Bulgaria teaches you an entire alphabet, allowing you to write your very first postcard in Cyrillic.

The southern route is all about the good things in life: Portugal invites you to craft trinkets DIY-style from their quintessential export, cork. Spain lets you explore a pilgrim’s progress on Europe’s shortest Camino de Santiago. And France lets the good times roll with a round of pétanque.

This route is perfect for people who enjoy getting involved: Crown the best performers with your applause at Germany’s poetry slam, bring smurfs to life with pen and paper with Belgium and learn the do’s and don’t of cheese fondue and reap homemade chocolates as a reward with Switzerland.

FINLAND / GERMANY / THE NETHERLANDS
Listen and participate on this route for the particularly curious: Learn all about Finland’s Swedish minority as they tell you stories, then join them in baking “pulla,” their national pastry. Reward the best entries at Germany’s poetry slam with the loudest applause. Finally, the Netherlands challenges you to try a typically Dutch form of consensus building – the polder model.

Los geht’s am Samstag, den 26. Mai, zu Mittag im MuseumsQuartier. Vor Ort wirst du in eine Gruppe eingeteilt und machst dich gemeinsam mit eurem Guide auf den Weg. Auf eurer Route besucht ihr drei Länder, die alle in Gehdistanz erreichbar sind.
Auf jeder Route erlebt ihr drei der insgesamt 15 europäischen Länder, die 2018 zur Auswahl stehen. Ein paar Highlights aus dem heurigen Programm: in der Skispringer-Nation Polen kann man die richtige Haltung für den perfekten Skisprung üben, in der Schweiz erfährst du die Do’s and Dont’s für die Zubereitung von Käsefondue, in Dänemark gibt es ein “Lego Serious Play” und in Bulgarien gilt es eine Postkarte zu schreiben – in neu gelernten kyrillischen Schriftzeichen.
Zum Abschluss geht’s in den Volksgarten Club, wo alle knapp tausend TeilnehmerInnen wieder zusammen kommen. Dort ist Zeit, sich darüber auszutauschen, was man auf seiner persönlichen Route erlebt hat – und ihr erlebt vor Ort, wie europäisch wir eigentlich alle sind. Danach kann man den Tag gemeinsam ausklingen lassen. Voraussichtliches Ende: ca. 20.30 Uhr.
